Today, on International Women`s Day we’d like to shine a spotlight on @furnishingfutures, a remarkable charity that transforms empty social housing into homes for women and children escaping domestic abuse. After hosting our first sell-out fundraiser at the Barneby Gates studio last Autumn with the amazing Cath Kidston (pictured with us here), this year - as official partners of the charity - we`ve committed to supplying fabric for their cushion-making initiative with fellow partner @remnantrevolution_ . We’ll also be hosting a second event at the studio with another talented female designer, with ticket sales supporting @furnishingfutures - so watch this space for the announcement! #internationalwomensday #womenforwomen

My iphone has just reminded me of this day one year ago! We shot one of our most fun collaborations to date - @barnebygates X @stripeandstare pyjamas based on our Painter’s Stripe design ~ to match the wallpaper and fabric of the same name. The shoot - with Katie, the fabulous founder of @stripeandstare - was at our studio in Wiltshire and included our 3 daughters which added to the hilarity of the day as you can imagine! The PJ’s have almost sold out but there may be a few bits left if you’re very lucky. I still live in mine💞

Hi! With so many new faces here it felt like the right moment to re-introduce ourselves…
We’re Vanessa and Alice — very old mates. We met when we were 10 growing up next door to one another in the countryside and have been best friends ever since. In 2010, armed with a handful of designs sketched around a kitchen table, we set up Barneby Gates.
Vanessa came from a magazine background, spending five years as a stylist at House & Garden and another five as Living Editor at British Vogue. Alice trained in fine art in Italy before moving into figurative painting, often with an interiors-led eye. Pooling our experience just felt right.
Since then, the company has grown to include wallpapers, fabrics and cushions, all designed by us in-house at our Wiltshire studio (where we’re sitting in this photo 👆), and printed entirely here in the UK. The studio is a showroom, design studio and warehouse rolled into one. We’re open to the public, and because we fulfil every order ourselves, we’re able to offer a uniquely personal service to all our customers — both retail and trade.
Along the way, we’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with some wonderful people and brands — including @ragandbone, @willowcrossleycreates, @tabithawebbuk, @burleighpottery and @stripeandstare
