YOU ARE INVITED to an intimate studio talk with @lucycunninghaminteriors @barnebygates and @giles.kime Weds 3rd June, 10am 🕙 in aid of @furnishingfutures ~ HOW TO DECORATE A HOME AND KEEP ITS CHARACTER ~
We’d love you to join interior designer Lucy Cunningham and Vanessa and Alice of Barneby Gates, in conversation with Country Life’s Giles Kime, to understand the secret of sympathetic decoration that reflects your personality - or that of a client - without banishing the distinctive personality of a house. While discussing recent projects in Wiltshire, Hampshire, Cornwall and the Cotswolds, the panel will highlight the opportunities and pitfalls of getting it right.
Following the talk, you are invited on an optional house tour of the Grade II listed Rectory Alice has recently finished decorating, just next door to the studio. Having been in her husband’s family for generations, the personality of this particular house was quite something to respect!

A proper heart warmer! 💗 Every Easter, German pensioners Volker & Christa Kraft decorate their apple tree with 10,000 hand blown and painted eggs. TEN THOUSAND!?! What a beautiful tradition and such dedication. (Also, I’d like to know where on earth they store them the rest of the year?!)

I’d intended to spend the weekend in the garden but the weather has other ideas 💨 ☔️ dreaming up a little garden room of my own instead 💭 I have the perfect empty corner of a very small garden simply crying out for something like this. This sunshine’s got us dreaming 💭 and @aplaceofgardeninspiration is exactly that! Feeling inspired to get my hands dirty this weekend and bring our little patch of earth to life 🪏🌱 Anyone else?

Beauty isn’t always perfect! We print many of our wallpapers using traditional surface printing machines - designed in the 18th century to replicate hand block printing. Each colour is applied one at a time with its own separate roller, guided not by automation but by skilled craftsmen who watch, adjust and perfect the process as it unfolds. When the ink needs balancing, a roller needs cleaning, or a colour refining, it’s not a machine that decides, it’s a person. No two batches are ever completely identical, and the imperfections simply add to the charm of a surface printed design 💙
